DON G. MACKENZIE AWARD


  1. The award is to be given to some individual who has made a significant contribution to the Forest Products Industry.

  2. The award is to be presented each year at the annual banquet.

  3. Prior to the summer board meeting, the Secretary/Manager will solicit nominations of the award from the general membership.

  4. The recipient of the award is to be picked from the nominations at the time of the summer board meeting by the last five immediate past presidents and submitted to the board for their approval.

Don G. MacKenzie, founder and first President of the Intermountain Logging Conference in 1939.  Don was also President of the PLC in 1944.

 Don was well known and a well liked man whose dedication and love of the logging industry was second to none.

 Don was born in Loch, Carron County, Rosshire, Scottland on April 11, 1887.  He came to the US in 1905, and worked in the mines and woods of Western Colorado.

Don came to Missoula MT in 1910 and went to work for the Anaconda Company.  In 1942, Don volunteered to the US Army and was involved in logging in France to help the war effort.  He was discharged as a second lieutenant after World War II.  Don came back to Missoula and continued working for the Anaconda Company as a logging superintendent for 34 years.  Don passed away in 1978.
